While Rodney Crowell outset gained far-flung credit as a leader of the new traditionalist cause of the mid-'80s, he in fact was a isaac M. Singer, songwriter, and producer with roots and ambitions extending far beyond the movement's parameters. Born to a musical house on August 7, 1950, in Houston, TX, Crowell formed his low gear wheel band, the Arbitrators, patch in heights school, and in 1972 affected to Nashville to become a professional musician. There, he stricken up friendships with singer/songwriters Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark.

Crowell's commencement large break came piece he was acting as a sofa vocaliser, where one of his acoustic sets was heard by Jerry Reed. Crowell's have "You Can't Keep Me Here in Tennessee" caught the spike of Reed and his manager, and deuce years later Reed recorded the song later signing Crowell to his publishing company. In 1975, Crowell touched to Los Angeles to link Emmylou Harris' Hot Band as a guitar player, and presently became one of her primary songwriters; among the Crowell compositions Harris commencement popularized were "Money box I Gain Control Again," "Ain't Livin' Long Like This," "Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight," and "Bluebird Wine." In 1977, Crowell exited the Hot Band to shape his have grouping, the Cherry Bombs, and in 1978 released his commencement album, Ain't Living Long Like This; surprisingly, given that he had reinforced his development reputation as a songwriter, his first two minor hits -- "Elvira" and "(Now and Then, There's) A Fool Such as I" -- were both covers.

Also in 1978, Crowell began producing tracks for the record album Correct or Wrong, the American debut from singer/songwriter Rosanne Cash; about the time of the record's 1979 release, he and Cash married. In betwixt recording his have 1980 soph record, Simply What Will the Neighbors Think, and producing Cash's commercial-grade breakthrough Septenary Year Ache, Crowell's songwriting calling took full flight when "Leavin' Louisiana in the Broad Daylight" strike numeral one for the Oak Ridge Boys in 1980. Among his former significant compositions were "Boulder clay I Gain Control Again" (a figure one for Crystal Gayle in 1983), "Shame on the Moon" (a Top Five pop up hit for Bob Seger in 1982), "Long Hard Road (The Sharecropper's Dream)" (a 1984 figure one for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), and "Somewhere Tonight" (a figure one in 1987 for Highway ci).

In 1980, Crowell issued his have low gear impinge on, "Ashes by Now," which was a Top 40 pop up crossover voter success; the followup, "Stars on the Water," was popular with both pop and country listeners. In 1981, he issued his third LP, a self-titled effort which was not commercially successful; when a quarter effort was rejected by his tag, he sour his energies to writing and producing, most significantly helming Cash's 1987 chef-d'oeuvre King's Record Shop. At Cash's urgency, Crowell reignited his performing career in 1986 with the acclaimed Street Language, an eclecticist exertion co-produced by Memphis soul caption Booker T. Jones.

In 1988, Crowell finally skint through commercially with Diamonds & Dirt, a record which generated an unbroken string of five number one singles with "It's Such a Small World" (a duo with Cash), "I Couldn't Leave You If I Tried," "She's Crazy for Leavin'" (co-written by Guy Clark), "After All This Time," and "Above and Beyond." Keys to the Highway was besides extremely successful.

Crowell and Cash divorced in 1991, prompting both artists to papers their marriage's dissolving with starkly confessional albums; Crowell's 1992 Animation Is Messy featured guests Steve Winwood and Linda Ronstadt. Switching to MCA Records for Have the Picture Paint Itself in 1994, he followed with Jewel of the South the following year. In 1997, he formed the Cicadas with longtime backup musicians Steuart Smith, Michael Rhodes, and Vince Santoro. He married vocalist Claudia Church in 1998, and in 1999 wrote her land chart debut, "'What's the Matter with You Baby." Crowell issued his first base album since 1995, The Houston Kid, in 2001. Continuing in the autobiographical nervure of that record, he released Fate's Right Hand in 2003, followed by The Outsider in 2005.

tertiary Bass was one of a still-small number of white rap artists to execute wide of the mark acceptance in the larger community. Along with the Beastie Boys, tertiary Bass proved that andrew D. White rap wasn't necessarily going to suit a watered-down, commercially exploitatory heist of the genuine article, as so many white River interpretations of black musical forms had been in the past. Instead, they were berserk of a well-developed lyric proficiency and were respectfully well-versed in hip-hop culture and tradition. They helped go under the musical promissory note for the room white rappers could believably and intelligently coming the music, and scorn staying together for only 2 albums, they managed to make a highly positive lasting impingement.

3rd Bass was formed by Queens-born MC Serch (innate Michael Berrin) and Brooklyn-native Prime Minister Pete Nice (inborn Pete Nash), along with African-American DJ Richie Rich (innate Richard Lawson). Nice had been an English major at Columbia University and hosted a short-lived rap music show up on receiving set station WKCR. Serch, in the meanwhile, had honed his skills battle-rapping at clubs and jam parties and had antecedently released a solo undivided called "Hey Boy" on the small independent Idlers tag. Both Serch and Nice were on the job as solo acts until producer Sam Sever convinced the deuce 20 class olds to conjoin forces in 1987. Along with Prince Paul and the Bomb Squad, Sever produced their 1989 Def Jam debut, The Cactus Album (aka Cee/D), which was greeted with enthusiastic reviews in to the highest degree quarters. Clever, good-humoured singles like "The Gas Face," "Steppin' to the A.M.," and "Brooklyn-Queens" helped crap 3rd Bass's name in the tap music subway. They followed it in 1991 with Derelicts of Dialect, which featured one of the low recorded appearances by Nas and contained a savagely singular thrusting at Vanilla Ice called "Kill Goes the Weasel." Accompanied by an equally humorous video, "Pop Goes the Weasel" became third Bass's biggest chart single and performed some much-needed scathe control in the hip-hop community: not only did it prevent third Bass from acquiring lumped in with Ice, but by file name extension, it too distanced at least some of the Caucasian race from the whole phenomenon, chess opening doors for greater inclusiveness later on.

Disdain their success, third Bass disbanded in 1992 when MC Serch went solo. He issued Turn back of the Product later that year, and the remainder of the grouping, billed as Prime Minister Pete Nice & DJ Daddy Rich, teamed up for Dust to Dust in 1993. Neither was as successful or high profile as the two gold-selling tertiary Bass albums. Serch, interested in discovering new talent, became the head of A&R at the well-thought-of, now-defunct Wild Pitch tag, and later founded his possess judge, Serchlight Productions. Nice, meanwhile, dropped out of the medicine business and opened a store in Cooperstown, NY, that sold baseball memorabilia. In 2000, third Bass reunited for several concerts.

Ellen DeGeneres, Rachael Ray share Emmy spotlight

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Comedian Ellen DeGeneres and cooking-lifestyle guru Rachael Ray shared the Daytime Emmy spotlight on Friday as they split U.S. television's top two awards for entertainment talks shows.

In another high point of the evening, Jeanne Cooper, the grand dame of America's longtime No. 1 soap opera, was named best lead actress in a drama series for her 35-year role as Katherine Chancellor on "The Young and the Restless."

It was the first Emmy win after eight nominations for Cooper, who is one of only two remaining "The Young and the Restless" cast members from the early days of the show.

"I bet you thought I died," the 79-year-old actress joked as she accepted her award, adding later, "This is totally shocking to me."

Veteran "General Hospital" star Anthony Geary, who plays the popular Luke Spencer character, won his sixth trophy as best lead actor. "General Hospital" was named best daytime drama series for a record 10th year.

The victory for "Rachael Ray" in the race for best talk show marked an upset triumph over "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," which had won the prize in each of the last four years.

"Wow! Holy cat," a stunned Ray enthused on stage. "I really can't breathe."

Ray, whose syndicated series was spun off from recurrent appearances on Oprah Winfrey's show, has grown quickly into a ubiquitous brand highlighting a homespun, easy approach to cooking based on her "30 Minute Meals" concept.
